Protecting the Rights of Family Business

In September 2012, Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. filed a lawsuit opposing the Health and Human Services mandate, which would force the Christian-owned-and-operated family business to provide in their health insurance plan four potentially life-terminating drugs and devices.

What We Did

We provided communications strategy and support to Hobby Lobby throughout the lawsuit and served as the point of contact for all media requests. We also developed a custom microsite and social media channels dedicated to educating the public on the facts of the lawsuit and offering them a chance to show their support. Our primary goals for all efforts were to rally support for the company and its cause, and to separate the business interests of Hobby Lobby from the lawsuit itself.

Results

Victory

After nearly two years of working with Hobby Lobby on the lawsuit, we were able to announce that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Green family on June 30, 2014.

Our efforts garnered hundreds of thousands of media placements across the nation, including coverage by NPR, Fox News, New York Times, Washington Post and more.
