Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn. All are social media sites that businesses actively use to connect with consumers. A platform that’s overlooked? Snapchat. With more than 100 million daily active users and more than 400 million snaps per day, it is the fastest growing social platform, and it’s one of the ways businesses can market themselves and their products in an engaging way.
So who’s using Snapchat? Currently, 86 percent of Snapchatters fall between the ages of 13 and 37, which includes the highly sought-after Millennial. However, only one percent of businesses are taking advantage of the power Snapchat has to reach those audiences. Learn how to increase your Snapchat following and effectively use it for business marketing purposes with these five tips.
1 – Utilize the Snapchat Story. Using a Snapchat Story is an easy and effective way to reach all followers and keep them waiting for exactly that – a story. The combination of photos and 10-second-or-less videos can be utilized for trivia about the company or even to create suspense for an announcement. Stories stay available for 24 hours, so followers can easily revisit the story if they wish.
2 – Go behind the scenes. Take followers behind the scenes of your business. One of the aspects people are often interested in is company culture, and Snapchat can reveal what a day in the life at the office is all about. For smaller businesses, try featuring employees with 10-second videos.
3 – Offer exclusivity. Create giveaways, contests, coupons or other promotional items that are available exclusively to your Snapchat followers. Ask followers to screenshot your snap, watch your full Snapchat story or take a snap including your product or brand. You can even keep track of success by monitoring how many times a unique code is used or how many followers screenshot a snap.
4 – Cross promote. One of the challenges marketers face is that, in order to follow the brand on Snapchat, users have to know the username. Using existing social media platforms to promote a Snapchat username or a Snapcode image is a great way to increase the number of followers. Snapcodes are Snapchat QR codes that allow users to quickly follow an account. Additionally, Snapchat can be used to create a call-to-action by giving followers a sneak peek and having them visit the website or Facebook page to follow up.
5 – Partner with influencers. One of the best ways to gain attention and followers is through the use of influencers such as bloggers, YouTube or Vine stars. Consumers typically trust influencers more than brands, which is why they are becoming so valuable to marketers. After you’ve built relationships with influencers, ask them to post on their Snapchat account or other social media accounts, directing consumers to your brand’s Snapchat account. You can also ask them to take over your Snapchat account for a day.
