Each year, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) provides an Annual Energy Outlook (AEO) that identifies over 30 scenarios that help project what the American energy industry and mix may look like in the year 2040. Though widely used and cited throughout the industry, the data is arranged in a myriad of individual charts and tables that are often times difficult to follow, compare and contextualize.
Saxum was tasked with presenting these scenarios and the data points they encompassed in a more interactive and user-friendly way. Taking the approach of “complex to simple”, this data visualization was developed to serve as a clear and robust information resource for legislators, organizations and companies that deal with energy-related issues on a regular basis. The result was a rich, data-filled experience that allowed users to compare up to three scenarios at once across a variety of metrics and easily export the charts or graphs in a presentation-ready format.
